La Fortuna Costa Rica Boring as F**K

La Fortuna Costa Rica, boring as FUCK.

To the folks at 'Open Road Travel Guide' and specifically, 'Open Road's Best of Costa Rica' Travel Book,

You wrote this about La Fortuna Costa Rica:
Boring Fortuna. Fortuna is an uninteresting tourism-support town, which is useful for booking tours but not much else. Stay somewhere closer to the volcano, where you might see some action if the clouds ever clear up. The interesting places to stay are on the way to the lake, towards the town of Nuevo Arenal and beyond. Most lodges can help you arrange any of the local tours and activities. Without a car, transportation can be a bit of a problem.

First, I got to say, F**K YOU! You know, just so we're clear on what I think of your recommendation(s). After reading your BULLSHIT, my first inclination was to list ALL the GREAT things about La Fortuna but that seemed so defensive and grade-school like. So I decided to go with, "Sticks and stones may break my bones....." BUT really, you should be ashamed of yourself for writing such a blatantly untrue and deceptive review of La Fortuna. Obviously, I live here, I know you're full of shit...but most people don't have the foggiest idea of La Fortuna and they're going to take what you have written as the truth. Did I say , "fuck you"? For instance, your statement doesn't even make sense logistically for just the fact you tell people to stay in Nuevo Arenal and 'beyond' but do the tours in Fortuna... and you state it as such, "without a car, transportation can be a bit of a problem." NO SHIT DUMBASS. I could go on and on.....

I just want to know how you got the gig to write for a travel guide in the first place, you clearly did NOT spend time in La Fortuna, which makes your entire 'travel book' a little suspect to say the least. Really, I have so much shit I want to say,,,but I decided to take the 'high road' and make a video instead. But PLEASE, if you EVER want to debate 'boring' La Fortuna or your 'credituals' for that matter- I'm here, anytime. Anyway, here's the video.....

I was going to post here something like "I was in La Fortuna and did [long list of things]" but then I questioned myself because was I actually in La Fortuna? I stayed in a lodge that is around Arenal. Then I looked at where Nuevo Arenal is and HELL YEAH I guess I could say then I was basically in La Fortuna. ok with that, my partner and I booked a whole wack of activities. I wont list them all because Micheal and D'Angelo do a good job of that. To say there is nothing to do in La Fortuna is from someone who just doesn't get it. Ok I didn't actually do much within La Fortuna itself as most of the activities were outside of the town. however all the activities centred around La Fortuna and La Fortuna was the meeting place for all of them. I have to say, while waiting for the shuttles or whatever just looking around at the town from where I was stitting from time to time, the town itself also looked like an interesting place to look around. back to things to do... absolutely 100% agree with you! - There is TONS to do in and around La Fortuna. The statement in that tour book is so crazily incorrect its not funny. Now I understand why the boys put up this blog post with such a strong title. Just so there is no mistake - if you stay in and around La Fortuna I can guarantee there is many many days of things to do. It's actually good place too to establish a home base for your trip as from La Fortuna you can head in any direction to the next amazing place in Costa Rica. and as a bonus its pretty close to San Jose for when your trips ends (easy to get back to fly out).

Yeah,,,,that's what I wanted to do at first, make a list...... Thanx for taking the time to comment and give your perspective..... I agree with you. For me, the bottom line is the review is deceptive in that travel book and if you've never been here, you might believe it.... and think staying over in Nuevo Arenal but doing tours in Fortuna is a better option...... anyway, thanx again.
Yep! and the activities I did in the La Fortuna area were comparable and in some cases better than similar activities i've done on the Caribbean coast, Monteverde and OSA.
Wow! To the comment that there is nothing to do and Wow to the trip I just had. La Fortuna and the atmosphere surrounding was nothing short of sensory overload. Both my girlfrined and I had an effin FANTASTIC time.
The Life experiences most would just call "activities"were 10 to 1. Michael and D'Angelo have 250 videos simply trumping that opinion.
All we have to say is, cheers to Micahel and D"Angelo for the advice the videos and the Life Experience!

Hi! Loved reading you, love the video, loved the PASSION for La Fortuna. Fell on your website hile looking for things to do IN la fortuna. 1st time in CR next summer, looking for a cheap hotel for 2 nights that will be close to EVERYTHING, shops, restaurants, etc etc.. Since googlemaps dont show street view, can't figure out if the hotel is a good spot or not: hotel las colinas? Is that good or bad? Good or bad location? Taxi stand & interbus stop somewhere around? (wont have a car) Anything better: cheap price, more central location, safe (2young kids)? That will be our base for hanging bridges/la fortuna waterfalls, next day ecoglide, and then off to los lagos for the day/last night.

Hope you're available for help.

AND THANKS!!!
Wow, that travel book couldn't have made you that angry did it? Who cares what they think of La Fortuna, there are plenty of people who love La Fortuna. Now why did they write that article about La Fortuna the way that they did.? They did it to get more attention, to kick up a little controversy. By you responding to them the way you did...with all of that ranting and cursing, you gave them what they wanted all along. You only boosted their egos because they succeeded in getting under your skin. People write articles like that to get people like you to overreact, lose your temper, fly off the handle, and to respond..which means more people are going to want to see what the big controversy is about and flock to that same book to read that same article and that means more attention and maybe more opinions that side with them. On the other hand, your overreaction is also a strategy for you to get more attention too...I mean you do have a decent following already (seen the youtube videos), and there is a small niche that like the crude and crazy gringo type in the travel commentary biz.
