Our Apartment in La Fortuna Costa Rica

Living and working in Costa Rica is not EASY if making money is a MUST. I can't tell you how many people we've seen come and go because dreams were CRUSHED or promises of paradise were not as advertised.

So, if you're coming down to Costa Rica in hopes of turning around your life and making money in order to support yourself, DON'T come, your chances of success are just about nil and you'll be wasting your time or at the least, spinning your wheels, barely scrapping by with NO future. That said, you can live fairly cheap here if you want to but you would have to be dedicated to the cause and hopefully have a light at the end of YOUR tunnel... I know if we didn't, we wouldn't be here right now.

Anyway, we've been very reluctant up until now to let you into our Costa Rica world, mostly because we're a little embarrassed,,, obviously we're over that now. This is our life. Hope it helps you deciding yours.

Hey guys. thanks for showing how you live in costa rica. no need at all to be embarrassed! my gf and i have been talking about the idea moving to CR but we are taking it slowly partly based on your advice. the way you are living is absolutely 100% how we'd prefer to live, all things considered. meaning, if we were able to live in CR like you and give up what we have up here, we'd do it. but of course we are going to take it slow, have more visits to CR and ideally a longer term (4-6 month) sabbatical there so we can assess if we can and want to make the change. thanks again for sharing it was really really helpful and compounded our desire to live there too.

You are WELCOME. It's a little embarrassing because I think most people expected different...... Yeah, definitely take it SLooooww. thanx for the nice words, appreciate it.
Hola, I have been enjoying your videos for about 2 years and have learned a lot.
I retired 3 years ago and soon found that I did not have enough money to live in the States. So I sold EVERYTHING. With 2 dogs and 2 suitcases I moved to CR.
I had never even had a passport before. Other than some extra cost in getting my dogs into the country, everything has been good. Tried Escazu but it was too much like the US and it was too chilly. Then tried Puerto Viejo. It was fun for a while until I realized that I wasn't really a beach person (Jimmy Buffett or no, you can only drink so many margeritas ) And I got tired of sweating 24/7. Then 9 months ago I ventured to Atenas. As Goldilocks would say..this is just right!

Through Craigslist I rented an apartment similar to yours but furnished for $220 with utilities it runs around $240 a month. I live high on a hill with 3 way views and cross ventilation and an acre for my dogs to roam. I have a wonderful French landlady that lives in a house attached to my apartment. Nice neighbors and no crime. I discovered I did not need or even miss all my STUFF.
I agree that some folks need to take it slow. But if you are retired and sick of cold winters, humid summers, high cost of living, car expenses and waiting for the other shoe to drop...CR might be the best present you ever give yourself.

Michael..DeAngelo..keep up the great job you are doing and know in your hearts that you are partly responsible for me deciding to chuck it all and find a beautiful and affordable life.

Mucho Gracias!

haha..well, we definitely think a like...love to visit the beaches..just don't want to live there 24/7 and you ARE in a great location. So COOL to hear things are going well for you. Get a little tired of people emailing us to tell us what a disappointment they thought Costa Rica was..... anyway, that's another story. THanx man, appreciate the nice words.
What is "ringo pricing"? It was kind of hard to discern in your video. I tried looking it up on the web, but I found nothing.

'gringo pricing'.......sorry, should have explained it, but we do have a video about it. There's the 'regular' price for locals and the 'gringo price' which is always 'HIGHER' because they think us 'gringos' or foreigners' all have money.
