I've lived in Costa Rica for 7 years myself like Michael Allen, just in a different region in the central valley. Though it's much different than where he lives, he's dead on with his video's. I don't see any flaws in them for one's own agenda. He is speaking the truth! Anybody that's thinking of moving here or just taking a vacation should go over his videos on youtube. There's no lying in this guy most like what you read about Costa Rica! No candy coating that's for sure!

Wow, love this video, makes think when i had to get some money from my tico bank account jus before i purchase my finca, i took about 2 hours to withdrew $5.000 and they even photocopy the money they gave me ... and i was real piss to see how they wrote everything on big ass book... and when they finished, they tod me "PURA VIDA" hahahahah

Hi MA. thanks for this video. as you might know I don't live in CR but have visted a number of times. and I have been planning to move there once I get things sorted where I am now. anyway, I am like you and I prefer predictable process. from my small sampling of this kind of thing in CR I see what you are saying and its one of my fears about moving there. can you give some tips on how to deal with this aspect of CR for a "process person" like ourselves?

You really can't do that much about it....except PREPARE and do as much homework as you can..... but most times, even that's not enough.

Just watching this video stressed me. Guess I really need to re-think this entire idea of retiring to CR! Communication of expectations and and change in information/methods are really important to me in my profession and day to day life...we shall see.

I am from the North in the USA and when I moved to Texas I encountered all of the manana there and it drove me up a wall. I think this is a big reason why Yankees/Gringos are not well liked because we are pretty regimented. After a while you just have to go with the flow of it or get yourself an aneurism. Once you get used to manana time it is very freeing and I can't wait to move! Thanks you guys for your bang-on videos to help us wannabe ex-pats!
