OMG! We Dicked Ourselves OVER

NEWS FLASH! We make videos about traveling and living in Costa Rica and the truth is, they're becoming fairly popular on YouTube (2000-3000 clicks a day, everyday, popular). That's a good THING and we're VERY appreciative that some folks find what we have to say useful. Thanx, but that's not the problem.

When we first started making videos we didn't have the foggiest idea of what we were doing and if you watch some of our earlier work, that is painfully clear... I still cringe. But we've learned a few things since then and really, in the last year, we think our videos are much better. But guess what, we made a HUGE mistake when we started. We used copyrighted music on some of our videos and on YouTube that's a big NO-NO. Don't get me wrong, we totally understand YouTube's position, we just thought early on that Guns and Roses, 'Welcome to the Jungle' worked, we were a little ignorant to say the least. Bottom line- we can't become YouTube 'partners', which if we were, we could generate revenue from our videos via advertisements. Did I mention that we don't make much money and every little bit helps us to continue doing what we're doing? Did I mention we have about 240 videos to date on YouTube and that number will only go UP?

So, we have to make this right- Re-do videos or buy the copyrighted 'music', which we have no problem doing but we gotta do something... do you know how hard it is to pull a video off our channel that has like 20,000 hits. Here's a recent example...love this video, but we gotta pull it and change it...UGH!

Okay, my pity party is over, I got work to do. pura vida.

Sorry this is happening to you guys. Love your videos and information. I once paid some "pros" for a website design, and about a year or so later I got a "CEASE and DECIST" letter asking for several thousand dollars from getty photos because they used one of their copyrighted photos. I also know of another Costa Rica blog/website that had the same problem. I took my website down and they finally went away. Wish you well and look forward to your updated and better videos. PEACE, IT ALWAYS HELPS!

Thanx for the commens Carlos. Guess we gotta do what we gotta do. We have a pretty good base of videos,,so it should all work itself out. Yeah, that definitely sucks when you supposedly hired 'pros'. We get our videos stolen quite a bit and find our pics on a lot of places as well. Sometimes we care and sometimes we don't.....
Yeah, sometimes ignorance sucks. Good luck!

You got that right.
I had wondered why you never put those videos in the Youtube partner program. You had enough critical mass a few years ago.

Here is another gotcha..... The partner program is not available for Costa Rica Adsense accounts. You will have to move/open an account in the U.S.or one of the other 19 countries where its allowed.

I assume you just found out about it because youtube opened it to all accounts. In the past you had to be invited, and normally you would have been invited beased on the amount of content you have...... unless its's a Costa Rica account.

We've known about it, just didn't do anything to fix the problem. We've always used Royalty Free Music..... so maybe if we just go back and pay for it, we'll be okay.....if we have to pull stuff down...so be it.... better now than later I suppose.
