Costa Rica Websites GOOD and BAD

Costa Rica, Costa Rica, Costa Rica... it's all I hear- "I want to live in Costa Rica." "My wife and I want to retire to Costa Rica." "I want to start a business in Costa Rica." "I want to bring my family down to Costa Rica. Like I said, Costa Rica, Costa Rica, Costa Rica... blah, blah, blah.

Okay, so you've decided living in Costa Rica could be an option. But where to start the research when there's SOooooooooo many Costa Rican websites to choose from. And if you don't know the difference between 'solid' Costa Rica info and 'sketchy' Costa Rica info, it can be veRY daunting to say the least.

I'm here to help. Take a few minutes and watch the video and trust me, it's worth the 6-minutes because you also need to know what websites to AVOID.

The Real Costa Rica and ARCR.net are not the only good websites, they're just a good start. And actually, ARCR has good info but they're totally out to rope you into their services (expensive I might add). Here's a few others that might help. And just so you know, I have NO monetary motivation... and more likely than not, this post will be a surprise to All the websites I mention.

Living Life In Costa Rica blog.Lot's of lists. Great INFO for people looking for the BEST places to find 'things'. She's done a LOT of research so you don't have too. Only thing I don't like, she's a little blatant in seeking donations. But then again, she probably deserves them.

US Expat Costa Rica: This is an 'aggregate' site and a LOT of info shows up on this site from various blogs. He also writes of his own experiences and musings. Good stuff.

Boomers Off Shore Lots of videos and information. Great thing is, the information is based on their own experiences. Solid information.

The Raw Food Family Lot's of videos and INFO about living a more organic and sustainable life in Costa Rica- family, beach style.

A couple blogs I check out:

*A Dull Roar Great info on everyday life and he's a good writer, especially worth checking out if you're thinking about coming to Costa Rica as a family.

De La Pura Vida Costa Rica This blogger writes about her 'observations' and experiences here in Costa Rica. Great writer in my opinion and good inside information.

Of course there's other great websites and blogs pertaining to Costa Rica and if you'd like to mention them, please do so in the comments, I'd appreciate it. This is just my short list.

Looks like you definitely picked the winners here. Can definitely sympathize with the difficulty of finding accurate, and up to date information.

Hey! I'm honored to be on the best list! I'd have been honored on the worst list, too, I guess! Nothing worse than being in between, in limbo, purgatory.... :) Like what you've done with the place since I was last here by the way. Edggggyyyy.... as always. And now, you've done it so long that you can NEVER give up the ALL-CAPS trademark. Pura vida!

Another great video guys. I subscribe to all of your top choices and enjoy their sites because they do not have any hidden agendas, and give straight forward humor and information. Another amazing site that I enjoy that also gives honest information is Paul and Gloria Yeatman's site. http://retireforlessincostarica.com. I believe it is well worth checking in to.

You are pretty cool! Don't know who you are, but somehow you ended up in my gmail in box because of Daniel Woodall.. Your little video is as the Brits say "spot on". I want to put this link on my website if that is o.k. with you. I won't do it until you say O.K. MOST of the guests we get are coming down to pick our brains, considering retirement and relocating to Costa Rica. Frankly, answer zillions of questions gets tiring, especially after the 10 email! This info. on good sites to look into is perfect. Thanks in advance of whatever your answer might be. BTW, my husband and I are in Boomers videos the early days before they moved here. They stayed with us and picked our brains.

A good selection, for sure, among a lot of choices out there, both good and bad. I'll nominate my own blog as one of the honest ones, based on my own experiences: http://FabulistadeCR.blogspot.com. I'm a bit behind at the moment due to a lengthy trip to care for my elderly mom but over our two-plus years here, we've logged a lot of adventures in search of Pura Vida!

Here's a couple more.... http://keepingyouinsitches.wordpress.com a retired woman who writes about the "ordinary" stuff of living in rural CR, and http://goinglikesixty.com a boomer guy who writes about the trials and tribulations of CR lving.

Oh cool, I'm surprised and honored to be on your list! Thanks for including me. :)
Also, you give some fantastic advice in the video: get info from more than one source because everyone's experience is different! <-- I don't think that can be said enough. It's like step 1 to trying to make it in Costa Rica.
Now I'm off to add you to my resources list, glad I found your site!!

I'd like to throw ours in the mix 10degreesabove.com. We don't have a lot of info about laws and processes we just talk about our everyday life here on the farm. We were newly added to the usexpatcostarica group. We always enjoy Doin' CR Michael and would love to know what you think of our site.

Beautiful website! Many information that can help you in case you took the decision to live in CR!! Well Done :-)
I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on this Costa Rica page: http://www.gooverseas.com/study-abroad/costa-rica

This is more useful for students interested in pursing opportunities there.

Cheers,
Megan

Thanks for your useful post :) -
I love costa rica - so beautiful country
I find the people on the ARCR forums are very closed minded - if anyone suggests anything outside of their own opnions they get trampled on. and any discussions about living in CR that does not including residency can cause you to be warned and worse, banned. its good to read the forums but post at your own risk.

The most common mistake people make when moving to Costa Rica is buying real estate without knowing if the area suits them. My advise to anybody moving to Costa Rica is to rent first for at least 6 months to a year and check the whole country. I could ramble on why to rent first, just take my word for it. Costa Rica is not for everybody, make sure it's right for you before buying real estate. Also that gives you time to learn the culture that might not suit you either. It's different from what your use to, believe me.
